As the US Supreme Court handed down its decision today on Arizona’s immigration law SB1070, parties from both sides of the argument declare VICTORY! In its decision, the “Supremes” struck down 3 of the 4 elements they reviewed.
US Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), who clerked for Justice Samuel Alito, commenting on Fox News this morning told Jenna Lee ”I think this an unfortunate decision…I think [the Obama Administration is] the winner.” Utah also passed a law similar to Arizona’s enforcement law last year.
Yet, Governor Jan Brewer (R-AZ), in a statement on the Court’s decision this morning said that…”(t)oday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court is a victory for the rule of law. It is also a victory for the 10th Amendment and all Americans who believe in the inherent right and responsibility of states to defend their citizens. After more than two years of legal challenges, the heart of SB 1070 can now be implemented in accordance with the U.S. Constitution.”
