James Madison asserted that “[t]he powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite… The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.”
- James Madison, Federalist 45
The Patrick Henry Caucus is founded on a belief that state legislatures need to do more than simply pass resolutions proclaiming state sovereignty. The time has come to actively engage the federal government and reassert rights that were never intended for the federal government to have.
Our goals include a coordinated effort in passing legislation intended to be challenged in the courts an funding states’ constitutional accounts. By working together states will be able to share litigation costs and give a united front to the validity of our claims.
We accomplish more standing together than we do separately.
