The Patrick Henry Caucus was created in 2008 by five members of the Utah State House of Representatives.  Representatives Keith Grover, Chris Herrod, Stephen Sandstrom, Ken Sumsion, and Carl Wimmer banded together to fight for states’ rights under the principles of the 10thAmendment to the U.S. Constitution.   In 2010, the Patrick Henry Caucus of Utah formally organized with bylaws and leadership.  In its first year of organization, members of the Patrick Henry Caucus were successful in drafting and passing twelve significant pieces of states’ rights legislation through the Utah legislature.  Since that time, additional states’ rights policies have been adopted by the Utah legislature and  many of those policies have been considered by other states.  Several Patrick Henry Caucus bills have been adopted as model legislation by national legislative organizations.

The vision of the Patrick Henry Caucus founders is to create a 50 state network of legislators and citizens exclusively focused on the task of reigning in the federal government and restoring states’ sovereignty.

The Patrick Henry Caucus is a multi-partisan organization.  Battling for states’ rights is not a single party responsibility, but the duty of every elected official who desires to protect their state against tyranny and the constant encroachment of the federal government.  Washington D.C. has no desire to let states manage themselves.  State sovereignty is at risk.

The federal government is constitutionally necessary.  But, limited and enumerated constitutional powers have grown far beyond their intended bounds.  James Madison reminded us that “there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the People through gradual and silent encroachment by those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.”  The proverbial frog has been slowly and carefully boiled.  No longer can states make unilateral decisions for the betterment of their citizens without receiving the “blessing” of numerous federal agencies and bureaucracies.

It’s time to send the message to Washington…No More!

No longer will States voluntarily relinquish their constitutionally guaranteed rights.

No longer will States allow the constant encroachment of federal lawmakers and bureaucrats into their constitutionally protected powers.
